The hamlet of Barranco Ferrer There are approximately 20 properties in the hamlet and it is a private community. Originally, it is likely this hamlet was one large working Cortijo and was broken up at some stage to form the hamlet of Barranco Ferrer. This is why the hamlet has its very own historic water supply via a very productive water well and why much of the land around Barranco Ferrer is still farmed today. Olive and almond trees surround the hamlet and there are also vineyards producing the famous muscatel grape well known in the area. The residents of the hamlet of Barranco Ferrer got together and decided to set up a village fund/community fees situation for the maintenance of the village and management of the village water well. A meeting is held once per year and it is discussed how much should be paid in community fees (currently 50 per annum) and how much for water. The coast and the road down to Castell de Ferro Firstly, there is the private hamlet road, then the mountain road that leads down from Barranco Ferrer, across the dry river bed and on to the A7/E15 motorway which is around 1o mins drive/6km. A little further and a few minutesdrive brings you to the coastal town of Castell de Ferro. This bustling coastal town has everything required for modern day living to include a 24hr medical centre, sporting facilities, bars, restaurants, shops and of course, the beach! The access to the property and the hamlet of Barranco Ferrer is mainly tarmac but there is a small section where you drive along a dry river bed. Most of the time, for years on end, a normal car is all that is needed. The mountain roads and the mountains themselves are dramatic and enjoyed by cyclists. The scenery is very dramatic. In the mountains you have untouched land or land planted with almond or olive trees and then as you descend into the valley, the growing of fruit and vegetables takes over (most covered by poly tunnels). From here, you reach the coast where the beach is backed by shops, bars, restaurants and more modern apartment blocks.
