For daily needs, there is a convenience store which is stocked with everything you need for regular life including meat, fruit, vegetables, fresh bread and a wide range of drinks. Many villagers will live out of this supermarket rather than venturing further afield. A Doctors surgery and a chemist open twice a week, the postman visits 5 days a week to deliver and collect mail and there is a bakery that provides fresh bread and cakes 6 days a week. There is a fish van which visits 5 days a week with cheap fresh fish from the coast and a fruit and veg van once a week. Regular cultural events are held within the Salon Cultural, a school for juniors and the Town Hall (which offers free Spanish lessons) add to the community feel of the village. The area is famous for the GR7 walking route which runs right through the village and there are many beautiful and peaceful walks in the surrounding hills and mountains. Road and off-road cycling is popular and the scenery for painters and photographers is amazing. There is also The Gerald Brenan Museum and The Sendero de Gerald Brenan, a 45-minute walk beginning and ending in the village. Twenty minutes drive are the small towns of Cadiar and Ugijar which have all the amenities expected of larger villages including restaurants, bars, supermarkets, clothing and footwear shops, an internet and phone shop, municipal markets with fresh meat, fruit, veg and fish, barbers, dentists, doctors (including 24 hour emergency clinic) a vets and much more.
